Family Science Saturdays | 4-8

Spend some quality family time having fun and learning about science… without having to clean up the mess!

Each Family Science Saturday consists of two half-day sessions -- morning and afternoon -- with hands-on activities, crafts and family fun in different areas of science. Program is designed specifically for students in grades 4-8. Students and parents enroll together for a great day! Sign up for one program, or enroll in both for a day full of science fun!

AM Session: WILD WEATHER  (9 am-12 pm)

Put your eyes to the sky and discover how weather works. You will learn everything from how clouds form to why snowflakes have different shapes. We will build weather instruments, discuss current weather events and even make shaving cream clouds!

LUNCH  (12 pm – 1 pm)

Bring your own lunch and enjoy an outdoor picnic on campus or head down the mountain to grab a quick bite. (There are lots of options on Rte. 44 in Avon and in Bishops Corner, West Hartford -- just a few minutes away.)

PM Session: ANATOMY (1 pm-4 pm)

Get to know body parts and functions, inside and out! We will work together to identify and assemble animal bones, dissect a squid, and even cut into a cow’s eyeball. This class features dissections, preserved specimens, and a few live animals.
