FAQ's

What are the program hours?

Courses run from 9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday.

The office is available from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Can I drop my child off/pick them up at campus?

Daily transportation is by bus from and to the bus stops listed on the Transportation page. If students need to arrive late and/or leave early for appointments, you can certainly do that by car, but must call the office in advance to arrange this.

Can you give me an example of a ‘typical day’ at Talcott’s Summer Program?

Students work with their course-mates, instructor and scholar for a morning session and an afternoon session. Snack, lunch, and recess are outdoors weather permitting. The 3-o’clock hour is Specials - different each day and will be one of these five: outside play, tie-dye shirt making, planetarium show, “work through”, and a weekly contest. Courses spend different amounts of time indoors and out, depending on the topic.

9 AM - Arrival & morning announcements

9:15 - 10:30 - Coursework

10:30 - 10:45 - Snack Break

10:45 - 12:00 - Coursework

12:00 - 1:00 - Lunch & Recess (indoor activities in bad weather)

1:00 - 3:00 - Coursework

3:00 - 3:45 - Specials including contests, outdoor activities and a "work-though" day.

3:45 - 4:00 - Dismissal & pickup.

What about food?

Bring a lunch and a snack and dress for the weather! Students should bring food that does not need heating or refrigeration. As peanut allergies are the most common, please help by limiting the use of peanuts in lunches as much as possible. For students with allergies, we will designate a "peanut-free" and/or "nut-free" table at lunch and snack, and designate other allergies as needed. Water: You may bring a bottle of water each day, and we will have water dispensers and single-use cups as well.

My child has medical needs, how about those?

A medical / permission form is part of the registration. No doctor's signature or physical exam is needed to complete this. We have a nurse on-site during the program. If your child will be taking medication during the hours of the program, medications must be in their original prescription packaging with prescribing information intact and a physician-signed medication authorization form. A Talcott staff member will collect any meds and authorization forms at the first day’s AM bus stop and return them at the last day’s PM bus stop. Please see our Forms page for these and other important documents.

What information will we get before the first day of class?

You get a confirmation email when you register. This confirmation includes our tax ID number and the amount paid if you need those for child care or tax credits.  Talcott will send an email the Monday before your child's summer program begins to remind you of all important information. We will email you if we are missing any important information (required forms, emergency contact information, etc.). It is important for us receive any of the information we request BEFORE your child arrives on Monday.
