The Talcott Mountain Science Center (TMSC) is pleased to announce the creation of the Dr. Donald and Nancy La Salle Scholarship Fund in recognition of TMSC Founder Dr. Donald P. La Salle and his wife, Nancy. This scholarship encompasses the previously established Nancy La Salle Scholarship for girls.
This new fund will provide tuition assistance to selected students in kindergarten through eighth grade attending the Talcott Mountain Academy of Science, Mathematics and Technology (TMA), a division of the Talcott Mountain Science Center.
As founder, former President and CEO of the Talcott Mountain Science Center for Student Involvement, Inc, Dr. La Salle was committed to stimulating the minds of students through a hands-on approach to science teaching and learning.
With his vision as its guide, the Talcott Mountain Science Center for Student Involvement, Inc., was founded in 1967. Since its inception, its programs have trained thousands of teachers and educated hundreds of thousands of students by combining engaging, hands-on lessons, state-of-the-art technology, and real-world applications – all taught by passionate and dedicated educators.
In 1983, Dr. La Salle introduced Talcott Mountain Academy, which evolved from the recognition that the gifted and talented students attending Science Center programs would benefit from a wide range of academic offerings on a full-time basis that would address their special needs. Today, TMA is a model school for intellectually excited students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
“We will remember Don as an outstanding educator, a man of dreams and aspirations. A visionary who accomplished so much for science and education,” said Jonathan Craig, Executive Director. “Don's beloved wife, Nancy, was supportive of Don's dream and contributed to the Science Center in her own right, in numerous ways. This scholarship is one way that their memory will live on.”
The Talcott Mountain Science Center for Student Involvement, Inc., is a 501(c)3 nonprofit educational organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
