Talcott Mountain Science Center - Solar Photovoltaic Power

System Monitor

What you are looking at is an output screen from the inverter systems of two solar installations at Talcott Mountain Science Center.

The first system came online in July of 2005 on the roof of our Meteorology Laboratory. It consists of 54 Sharp 175 watt Solar Photovoltaic panels in six series of nine panels, feeding three Xantrex GT3 DC to AC inverters. The system is mounted on a 20 degree sloping roof facing south-by-southeast. The peak output of this installation is 9.45 kilowatts.

The second system came on-line in June of 2006, on our Chronobiology Laboratory. The Chrono Lab was built in 1978 with 44 liquid panels for space heating and 4 liquid panels for domestic hot water. The electrical system is composed of 68 Sharp 175 watt Sharp panels feeding five Xantrex Inverters. These are mounted on a flat roof on south-facing racks tilted 12 degrees. The peak output of this installation is 11.9 kilowatts.
