ANIMATION:  CLAYMATION July 1 (NO CLASS JULY 4TH)

Create animated stories with clay, LEGO® or your favorite toy characters.  You’ll work in a team to write a story, set up a stage with your characters and create an original video of their adventures!  (We supply the clay and LEGO®, you can supply other toys).

 

CAMP INVENTION® "Supercharged!" K-3 Sold Out!

New for 2019, take on FOUR exciting hands-on challenges along with our innovation superheroes!  Team up with Innovation Force® to battle the evil Plagiarizer, out to steal the world’s ideas. Dive into Deep Sea Mystery™ to invent island-survival tools and underwater equipment and navigate your way back home. What if Old McDonald had taken business courses? Children manage their own farm as they learn the basics of running a business with the assistance of Bot-ANN-E, a programmable robot in Farm Tech™. Explore and engineer circuit boards, motors and gears and use real tools to reverse engineer a remote-controlled DIY Orbot. 

 

FLEDGLINGS I - HOW DOES THAT WORK? - Jun 24, Jul 8, Jul 22

Does smell help you to taste? What makes an optical illusion work? Exciting activities will help children explore the mysteries of the senses. From bugs to birds, from raindrops to craters, we’ll find out how lots of cool things in nature happen!

 

FLEDGLINGS II - OUR AMAZING UNIVERSE - Jul 1 (NO CLASS JULY 4TH), Jul 15, Jul 29

Explore our fascinating world, from the tiny to the enormous. Do some cool experiments, observe stars in our planetarium, use microscopes, telescopes to explore life & light, “see” sound, and enjoy the excitement of earth, space and physical science!

Are you an inventor?  Like to tinker? Take things apart? Build cool stuff? We have a take-apart lab, a maker lab, we’ll have design contests, speed building, LEGO® prototyping, and new inventions from everyday objects. You can even earn a “Talcott Patent”. Bring your busted stuff from home or use ours! 

 

GREEN ENGINEERING K-3 - Jun 24

How can the sun power your house? Your car?  Can you cook with sunshine? Find the answer to these questions and others as you switch on to solar, wind and water energy! Discover how electrons energize lamps, wires and motors as you build simple circuits and how to tap into nature for power! How can the Sun work for you? See how the sun can generate power through the use of photovoltaic solar cells.

 

GIRLS ROCK K-3 - Aug 12

Girls Rock!  As in geology, and they can do a lot of other neat sciences too! Fun and challenging activities will stress discovery skills and build confidence in young female scientists. Experiment with chemistry, electricity, technology, life, earth and space sciences, with plenty of hands-on investigation and invention! 

 

IT'S A BUG'S LIFE - Jul 29

They creep, they crawl, they fly! They make sure the flowers grow, they clean up our yards. They can lift hundreds of times their own weight, and can fly across the continent! They're bugs! We'll find them, watch them, even use our BugCam to see how they see the world with a bug's eye view!

Learn to code on iPads with easy-to-learn graphical programming apps that let you create graphics, animation, solve problems and create worlds with your drawings and imagination!  All apps used are open-source or freeware for use after the course.

 

KITCHEN CHEMISTRY - Aug 5

Do some hands-on chemistry with everyday materials that you use in your kitchen!  From volcanoes to dancing raisins, from weather patterns to rocketry, see some very cool science happen with things right off the kitchen shelf!

PIRATE SCIENCE - Jul 1 (NO CLASS JULY 4TH)

Fun filled sessions for aspiring buccaneers! Learn how to sail the Seven Seas and what to expect in those waters you're sailing over. Practice your map reading skills as you determine where you're going to bury the "treasure." Although we won't actually go to sea, you'll find an ocean of activities to do - so come on board for an exciting week!

WILD & CRAFTY - Aug 5

Discover your creative talents, using materials found in nature. Experiment with natural dyes. Create pictures and weavings with nature's colors and textures. Recycle paper into beautiful stationery tinted by leaves and flowers. What you make is yours to keep!
