The Observatories
at
Talcott Mountain Science Center

On April 15, 2004 the Science Center was granted an observatory code from the International Astronomical Union (IAU). This accomplishment allows Science Center astronomers and students to contribute observations and measurements of solar system objects (asteroids & comets) to the Minor Planet Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Science Center's observatory code is:

H97

Latitude: 41° 48' 40.74" N
Longitude: 72° 47' 55.32" W
Altitude: 286 m/938 ft.

The main observatory at The Talcott Mountain Science Center houses a 16 inch Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. It has a focal length of 4064 mm (160") yielding a focal ratio of f/10. Coupled with the telescope is a Starlight Express MX7C CCD camera. Images taken through the telescope can be found on our "Image Gallery" page. Ultimately, the telescope will be remotely accessible over the Internet.
